Conversion
In order for one to become a Christian they must be born again by the Spirit of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This being born again implies that life must be given to our ‘dead souls’ spiritually speaking.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3 vs 3.
One needs to personally experience an internal change resulting from righteousness being implanted deep in the heart. A person must abandon all hopes of becoming a Christian through any way that relies on self and good works. One must depend entirely upon the free Grace of the God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
